The BTE website has a temporary new look to help facilitate communication with the public about BTE's operations during the COVID-19 outbreak. You can still visit our regular website.

BTE's Current Situation

Updated 5/1/20. As a non-essential business as defined by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in accord with Governor Wolf's orders, and in the interest of public health, BTE is not conducting business in any of its facilities. Our administrative staff is working from home, however, and are answering inquires. Use this form to get in touch.

What would have been the last four shows in BTE's 42nd season, Airness, Broadway in Bloom, Luna Gale, and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe have all been canceled. BTE's annual fund-raising event The Taming of the Brew has been indefinitely postponed. Owing to the loss of anticipated ticket revenue from the canceled shows, Ensemble members and production staff have been furloughed until production work can begin on our 43rd season.

We are considering moving The Taming of the Brew to later in the year, as circumstances may permit. Our first priority remains protecting the health and safety of our staff and the larger community.

Ongoing BTE Activities

Theatre School

Due to the extension of area school closings BTE's spring Theatre School has been canceled. In-person Theatre School activities will resume as schools reopen.

In the meantime, BTE is offering Virtual Theatre School videos free of charge for kids waiting for school to start again. Produced by BTE education director Abigail Leffler, the first videos offer lessons in stage combat and makeup. Lessons in other topics are in production.

Now available are BTE Bedtime stories, books read by BTE actors for kids who can't get to their local library just now.

BTE is accepting donations to support its Virtual Theatre School effort.

Theatre in the Classroom

Owing to school closures, the tour of BTE's current Theatre in the Classroom show, Ancient Thunder, which presents a number of the most important and interesting myths from ancient Greece, has been suspended.

However, a video recording of Ancient Thunder is available for use by families and teachers. A study guide to accompany the video is available for download free of charge.

From the BTE Archives

So our fans won't have to go without theatre during the current crisis, has made available video recordings of past BTE shows for distribution via Vimeo On Demand.

Our first offering from the archives is BTE's 2013 production of William Shakespeare's As You Like It directed and adapted by Laurie McCants. More shows are on the way.
