Amy Rene Byrne

Amy Rene Byrne joined Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble in the summer of 2020 and is its newest member.

Originally from Cookeville, Tennessee, Ms. Byrne came to Bloomsburg by way of West Virginia and Ohio. She attended Tennessee Technological University where, while earning a B.S. in World Cultures and Business, she also performed in every production the theatre department produced, was vice-president of Tech Players, and a member of Alpha Psi Omega, the national theatre honor society.

After graduating from Tennessee Tech, Ms. Byrne undertook graduate study in acting at West Virginia University, receiving an MFA in 2012. While at WVA she discovered and developed a love of theatre education and directing. She has served on the theatre faculties of Zane State College in Zanesville, Ohio, and Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. While living in Ohio, she was also a guest artist at the Columbus Children’s Theatre.

Amy joined BTE as its part-time education director in 2015 and expanded the BTE Theatre School and educational outreach to local schools to the point where they are now served by a full-time director and teaching artist. After appearing as a guest artist in BTE’s productions of The Nether, The BFG, and The Dairy of Anne Frank, Ms. Byrne was invited by the Ensemble to become an Ensemble Candidate.

Recent mainstage roles at BTE have been Jane in Miss Bennett: Christmas at Pemberly, and herself in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). She has also co-directed BTE’s Theatre in the Classroom show title Star Tours! with Richard Cannaday and has appeared in various commercial television and voice-over roles.
